The original version in its ‘Silver Bullet’ form is slick, technological and cold. This reworked edition introduces something of an organic and subsequently warmer quality, making it more suitable for agrarian Air Max heads than dystopian trawlers. Achieved by substituting synthetic and reflective materials for woven textile (in the same style as the AM1) and suede on the mudguards, the deliberate palette of colours including ‘Mushroom’ and ‘Muslin’ add to the analogue feel. As does the gum rubber outsole – a welcome addition to just about any sneaker. That being said, it would have been an impressive feat if these AM97s featured a crepe rubber sole like the AM1s. This pair is finished with some tasteful tonal details on the upper, plus matching brown woven pull tabs on the heel and tongue.
