Taking on the adidas UltraBOOST 21 — the Three Stripes’ latest BOOST-equipped running sneaker — it applies a signature Y-3 aesthetic to the pair while maintaining instantly recognizable UltraBOOST design cues. For example, the shape is still there, as is its sole unit that features six percent more BOOST than the pairs before it, while the recycled Primeknit+ weave makes for an entirely new and much more minimal upper look.
The upper is now clean and clear of almost any branding, and the lace cage has been removed too. A new adidas and Yohji Yamamoto-branded stripe runs down the middle of the shoe’s tongue, vamp, and onto the toe box, making a beeline for the medial side before hitting a protective bumper.
On the lateral side, leather has been used to carve out more toe box detailing, while towards the rear you’ll find a creamy-hued UltraBOOST-branded heel cage and a similarly colored Y-3-stamped heel tab made from leather. Rounding out the new pair is its sole unit which is finished in white with cream and red details highlighting the embedded Torsion system.
